Simulation is the act of imitating a phenomenon by any means. Numerical analysis methods, such as the finite element method, are used to analyze the equations describing a phenomenon, and the results of the analysis are used in product research, development, and design to produce results, which is called CAE. In contrast, the research field of numerical analysis methods for mechanical systems is called computational mechanics or computational engineering.
