Precision surface finishing (Lapping)

This is a manual finishing process in which the surface of the workpiece is moved by applying red lead paint on a "sliding surface plate" in order to obtain a precision flat surface. Convexities adhering to the red lead paint are scrapped off with a "hand scraper".
