A general term for machines that work by using an external drive source, such as an electric motor, to create pressure in the working fluid, oil, and thereby operate a hydraulic actuator. Like pneumatic equipment, hydraulics uses fluid to do its work, but at higher pressures than pneumatics, it is more suitable for applications that require high loads. Hydraulic actuators include hydraulic pumps and cylinders, and are used in a wide range of fields including construction machinery, machine tools, railroad vehicles, and agricultural machinery. An actuator is a mechanical element that converts electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic energy into simple mechanical motion, such as rotational or linear motion.
